Riverton Wyoming residents not interested in cooperation with Northern Arapaho Tribe

In a disturbing example of the latent and patent problems tribes and Indians face in working with non-Indians, a proposed agreement between the Northern Arapaho Tribe of the Wind River Reservation and the city of Riverton Wyoming to cooperate and work towards better relations resulted in more than 1,000 people petitioning against the agreement.

Riverton only had a population 10,032 people as of July 2008. So apparently 10% of the city’s population was against the city and tribe trying to improve their relations??? Unbelievable?

Riverton Mayor John Vincent says the deal is dead and the city council is moving on to other matters. The Tribe is also pulling out of the agreement citing the opposition of Riverton residents.
