BIA consults on gaming land-into-trust decisions

The Bureau of Indian Affairs held the first in a series of consultation sessions on gaming land-into-trust determinations in Spokane, Washington on Thursday. The Kalispel Tribe used the session to raise concerns about an off-reservation casino proposed by the Spokane Tribe.

According to the Kalispels, the BIA might adopt changes affecting local and state governments. That could clear the way for the Spokane casino. “This is not a feud. This is about playing by the rules,” Kalispel council member Nick Pierre told The Spokesman Review.
