Gulf Coast oil cleanup finding American Indian relics

The cleanup from the BP oil spill is turning up dozens of sites where archaeologists are finding human bones, pottery, and weapons left by prehistoric American Indian settlements more than 1,300 years ago. Teams hired by BP have discovered more than 100 such sites.

The location of the sites is being closely guarded to prevent looter and “pot hunters” from destroying and stealing from the sites.
