Indigenous Peoples' rights in India

The Times of India newspaper reports that the Indian Confederation of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples, North East Zone (ICITP-NEZ), has formed a seven-member committee to take up the issue of implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).  ICITP-NEZ president Jebra Ram Muchahary will head the committee.  India was one of the signatories to the UNDRIP, that was adopted and signed in the United Nations on September 13, 2007.

The ICITP-NEZ, however, alleges that since the signing of the declaration, India has "done nothing" for implementing the UNDRIP for the sake of indigenous communities of the country.
